Andy’s martial arts bio


Andy Dickinson is one of the Martial Arts highest    achievers. He has been studying martial arts and fitness  for more than half his life. He has a 4th Degree Black  belt in Taekwondo (WTF) and is the only non- Japanese to be trained and graded to Black belt by Japanese Masters in Japan in 2 of the most famous styles of Ju Jitsu; Daito Ryu Aiki Ju Jutsu and Tenjin Shin Yo Ryu Ju Jutsu .He was a member of the elite Daito Ryu Shinbukan Dojo in Japan for 25 years and is one of only a handful of non Japanese students world wide to be graded to 2nd Black Belt by Daito Ryu Master Katsuyuki Kondo Sensei. In 2009 Andy was awarded a 2nd Dan Black Belt by Aso Sensei, founder of Submission Arts in Japan,

Andy has spent many years travelling and studying many methods of martial arts world wide. He has lived and studied Ju Jitsu and Judo in Japan, Taekwondo in Korea, stick and knife fighting in the Philippines, Thai boxing in Thailand, and Brazilian Ju Jitsu in America. He has also made in depth studies of kick boxing, boxing and wrestling. In more recent times Andy has has been training in the Russian Martial Art of Systema under Chief Instructor Vladimir Vasiliev  in Canada and Alex Kostic from Serbia. Chi Gong with Master John Saw and Chen style Tai Chi with Sifu Alison Anderson. Andy is currently studying meditation with  Dr Swami Shankardev Saraswati.

Andy was the Australian Director and one of the founding members of the International Sports Ju Jitsu Association and on 2009 was elected as President of the International Budo-Ju Jitsu Federation based in Tokyo Japan. In June 2014 Andy officially changed the name of his personal martial arts brand to “Northstar Ju Jitsu.”

Andy Dickinson now devotes his time to expanding his training methods and philosophies at Northstar Martial Arts. The essence of his teaching is correct martial arts and fitness training is a great method of personal growth. It can be studied on the surface to get fit and learn self-defense and it can also lead to incredible changes in self-confidence, self-esteem, self-discipline and self knowledge . Students can use their training as a metaphor to break through barriers and achieve outstanding results mentally, physically and spiritually in everything they do. The motivation and energy of Andy is infectious. He can keep a group totally motivated and focused for the entire class guaranteeing that you will enjoy every minute of the work out.
